Last night around 10 PM 7/3/2015 I was lucky enough to get a ticket on my parked car for an expired inspection... I was bummed out after seeing this so today 7/4/2015 I went to get my car inspected but found out my inspection is not due until 11/2015. I thought this was a mistake but then when I checked my registration its been expired since 06/30/2015.

My question is, Can I appeal this sticker?
Is expired inspection the same as expired registration?

Please Help!
I apologize for my English.

Inspection and registration are two different things.

Registration is good for two years. The RMV usually sends you a copy of your previous registration (providing you're still driving the same car and haven't switched insurance companies) in the mail a month or so before your registration expires with the new expiration date. They also send you the sticker to place on your license plate. You mail them a check or pay them through online banking. They send you a receipt.

If you're not driving the same vehicle as per your previous registration and/or you switched insurance companies, you'll have to go through the whole registration process at your local RMV.

Inspection is annually. It's primarily to make sure your vehicle is in working order and that the vehicle passes the MA emissions test. You have until the last day of whatever month is on your sticker to get your vehicle re-inspected. This is the sticker that's on the lower left hand side of your windshield.

And yes, you can be stopped for an expired inspection sticker even though your registration is current. Happened to me a few years ago.

I got that ticket many years ago. It's a moving violation that sticks on your insurance just like a speeding ticket.

Did you buy the car used recently? Your inspection expires seven days after purchase regardless of what the sticker says.

We have a time traveller on our hands.

Registration and inspection are two different things. You will need to renew your registration and get your car inspected again in November.

You can try appealing the ticket but make sure it was written for an expired inspection sticker.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

I asked a few people yesterday regarding this issue and they also told me its registration and inspection are two different things. I am just really confused on why would they give me it if my Inspection its not due until November of this year, thats a bit strange.

By the way my confusion is because my ticket says code 303 Expired Inspection. But my sticker on the Windshield says 11 2015. Any ideas on where I have to go in Boston to get this fix?

So, wait? The ticket is for an expired inspection but it was your registration that was expired? I wonder if these are different or the same category on tickets here? Can you get off on a technicality, I wonder? You could go to court, show your inspection is valid until 11/15, and possibly have it dismissed? It could be worth a try. Otherwise, MA is a points state and an expired inspection is considered a moving violation. Guessing it will affect your auto insurance rates x 6 yrs.

That's why I'm confused, but many people keep telling me they're two different things. I will try to go to court even though someone told me I have to go to the City Hall of Boston and prove my Inspection its good andthen go to the Boston police department so they can take this ticjet off.

I really don't know hows the process hopefully someone can guide me.

No, I bought this car back in 2012 and I have done the Inspection every year since then.
